Website Investment Associate- Venture Capital Funds

(Work can mostly be performed remotely with occasional need to be onsite in the Herndon, Virginia office.)


The Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC) was formed to support the Commonwealth’s vision for the expansion of innovation, opportunity, and job creation here in Virginia. VIPC connects innovators with opportunities. VIPC’s Investment program, Virginia Venture Partners (VVP), has been consecutively recognized for the last several years as one of the nation’s most active early-stage investors. VVP places a total of 25-50 first-time and follow-on investments each year in high-growth potential technology (“tech”), life science and clean energy companies. Virginia Venture Partners’ indirect investment program enables VIPC to hold limited partnership (“LP”) positions in other venture funds aligned with VIPC’s investment goals. 

In this role, the Investment Associate will work closely with the Managing Director of (VVP) and senior members of the Investment Team in supporting implementation of investment policy and operations for VIPC’s $100M+ AUM investment program.

The following is a list of functions essential to the performance of this job. It is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

  • Subject to direction of senior members of the VVP Investment Team, develops and maintains selected relationships within Virginia’s entrepreneurial community for the purpose of identifying leads for VVP.
  • Supports and leads initial screening efforts for potential VVP investments as assigned.
  • Supports due diligence and closure of potential VVP and third-party investment through including assessment of finances, target markets, technology and prospective fit for downstream venture investment.
  • Supports closure of transactions within the VVP portfolio for which there is no additional investment, exchange of securities or significant change in value of holdings.
  • Provides leadership and support for VVP portfolio education initiatives including periodic seminars for portfolio CEOs investment targets.
  • Supports maintenance of corporate record of all VVP investment activity, including quarterly portfolio report and metrics, deal flow records, and investment documentation.
  • Supports development of VVP Quarterly Report and associated executive briefings.
  • Supports initial and ongoing data entry for and/or operations of a CRM and portfolio management platform.
  • Assists in positioning VVP in maximizing and achieving thought leadership objectives through support and leadership of marketing and outreach activities as assigned.
  • Supports research of venture capital and angel trends in the Commonwealth of Virginia as assigned.
  • Attends company events and other events in the community as assigned to support the  Investment Division initiatives.


  • B.A. /B.S. in general business or finance; STEM coursework preferred as well as 3-5 years prior professional experience required.
  • MS Office proficiency a must.
  • Passion for entrepreneurship and early stage company financing as demonstrated in academic and avocational history preferred.
  • Previous experience in cap table interpretation and analysis desirable.
  • Analytical and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in spoken and written form is required.
  • Ability to work independently while being a strong team player is essential.
  • Must be available to attend company events and other events in the community to support the Investment Division initiatives.
